--- In this paper, which is an excerpt from a doctoral thesis, we analyse the experiences at the beginning of first-generation university students who progressed to the completion or graduation stage of their respective degrees. Our work is framed within the theoretical and conceptual territory of the relationship with knowledge and a positive interpretation of university experiences. The results are based on fieldwork carried out between 2021 and 2023 with 63 in-depth interviews with 35 students from different degree programmes at the National University of La Plata (UNLP): Nursing, Sociology and various Engineering degrees. The analysis presented here involves three aspects that are common to students from different degree programmes and that also respond to different dimensions of the relationship with knowledge. In this sense, we analyse expectations regarding university, first academic experiences and the meaning that students attach to their degree programme and studies. Without pointing to them as causal factors, we believe that some clues can be gleaned here about the reasons why they continued their studies.
